שְׁחִיטָהf. (b. h.; שָׁחַט II) cutting the throat, slaughtering according to the Jewish ritual. Sifra Tsav, ch. VIII, Par. 4 אין לשון ש׳ אלא משיכה by shaḥaṭ drawing (of the knife) is meant, v. שָׁחַט I. Ḥull.9a כל טבח … ש׳ אסור לאכול משְׁחִיטָתוֹ if a slaughterer does not know the rules of slaughtering, you dare not eat of what he has killed.
